L’Illusionniste / The Illusionist
Film d’animation / Animation feature film
Sylvain Chomet (2010)
Written by Sylvain Chomet and Jacques Tati

Jacques Tati originally wrote the script for The Illusionist. It was a love letter from a father to his first daughter, but never got produced. Sylvain Chomet, director of The Triplets of Belleville / Les Triplettes de Belleville, adapted the script and once again used his own original animated style.

Tuesday Tips - Life Drawing Exercise: CONTOUR LINEOne of the most straight forward tip I have about Life Drawing. It kind of goes against what most life drawing instructors will tell you. The first thing you’ll hear is “Draw from the inside.” A contour line on a figure drawing is about the most superficial way to approach it BUT, it will help you tremendously at finding a clear silhouette. By the way, no one says you can’t slightly alter the silhouette you are looking at. If there’s a way to make it clearer or make a better statement, go for it. Drawing is about making decisions, not just copying what you’re seeing. The same way other techniques will help understand how the body functions, using a contour line as an exercise will help you find proportions, angles of the body and general appeal in your posing.Normand

Simple watercolor process

A simple watercolor tutorial! We just started seriously trying to learn and work with watercolors just this year, so this tutorial shouldn’t be taken as an expert way of painting. We’re still learning ourselves, and these are a few steps that we have learned to approach to make our own process easier. Especially the more simplistic style we like to dabble in. Pardon if there are any misspellings or if something isn’t too clear. Let us know if you use this tutorial as well. We would love to see what you do!

Hope you enjoy!

I’ve caught rickeytickey streaming himself drawing a couple times in the last week and it got me in the mood to sculpt another Rickey-styled girl. I’m still too scared to push the shapes as far as he does. Next time I’m going to make one of his characters so there won’t be any excuses for not getting the shapes right.
